The Australian economy is quickly recovering from the pandemic effects and Australia is facing "staggering" skills shortages, according to the most recent National Skills Commission report, which shows that the number of skilled occupations experiencing labour shortages in Australia has nearly doubled from 2021 to 2022. The report shows that 286 occupations were dealing with shortages at a national level during 2022, compared to 153 occupations in 2021. That means nearly one third of all Australian sectors are confronting serious worker shortfalls. The report also showed that the number of jobs advertised in Australia had spiked by 42 per cent in 2022 compared to 2021 and a total of 309,900 jobs were advertised in August 2022. The current unemployment rate in Australia is as low as only 3.5%, the lowest in 50 years. For that, the Australian government has announced a huge increase in the numbers of invitations for international immigrants from 160,000 during 2021 to 195,000 in 2022.
